The BC curriculum website is a space where teachers can research what topics and skills to focus on in their classroom. Each subject has an introduction and a goals and rationale page, where teachers or parents can more deeply understand the reasoning behind each subject. On the subject page, there will be a K-12 option where teachers can click on the specific grade they are teaching and find specific Big Ideas, Content and Curricular Competencies for each grade. At the top of each subject page there are the 3 Core Competencies that are interwoven throughout the entire K-12 curriculum. These Core Competencies are Communication, Thinking, and Personal and Social, and each subcategory has a description of what it includes and how it can be encouraged and taught in the classroom. Personally, I find the most helpful aspect of the BC curriculum is the “elaborations” found for each grade and subject. These elaborations go into detail on what topics to cover, and what questions can further students’ thinking.
